If you have a pub in the UK, wouldn’t it be foolish to to pay higher business electricity prices than the pub just a few doors away? If you are a business owner and you are not in a fixed price contract with your supplier, you are probably paying too much. Moving My Files to a New Computer

I was a little bit surprised by my birthday present.  My wife was good enough to buy me the laptop that I had been talking about for months, a brand new Asus G73 gaming laptop.  I wanted it specifically because it has the same screen resolution as my desktop monitor with the added bonus that it can play games.  Okay, I am supposed to be using it for work, but I may play a game from time to time.  But before I can do anything, I have to move my files from the old computer to my new one.

For normal people, direct transfers of files, photos and music are usually done over their computer network.  It is as easy as connecting both computers to their router with network cables, sharing one hard drive, and then cutting and pasting the files from one machine to another.  But in my case, the network card in my old desktop is broken, and since I don’t want to spend any more money on it, I decided to do something a little more technical.

I dissected my old machine to get to the hard drive.  Taking the hard disk out carefully from the old machine, I set it on my desk and hooked up my USB to hard drive cable kit.  I bought the kit a couple of years ago for when I work on computers for my clients.  It makes it easy to connect pretty much any hard drive as an external one to another computer and it is going to work perfectly in this case.

Turning it on, this new laptop detected the drive perfectly.  Now, I am in the process of copying the files from the old disk to this new laptop and it will take four hours according to Windows 7.  I guess that unfortunately gives me enough time to go outside and rake up the leaves; at least I can play a game when I am done.
